*Traffic Police Urges Legal Owners To Report ‘Perplexing’ Challans for Detection of More Such Vehicles*

Srinagar: A Maruti Alto K-10 is among the two vehicles seized by Traffic Police Rural Kashmir over ‘fake registration’.

“Acting swiftly on a reliable information that a Maruti alto K-10 operating with a fake registration number JK02CF 2710, Traffic police rural Kashmir under the supervision of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir RP Singh along with DySP Traffic Pulwama Shopian Dr Mudasser Tramboo seized the said vehicle on 9th January 2024 evening under 207 MV Act”, reads a statement issued here.

“Prima facie the discrepancies in Engine & chassis number, HSRP front & rear numbers and class of vehicle mentioned in the original and duplicate RC were recognized. More ever the information was shared with district police , who after proper verification took cognizance of the case and lodged a criminal case vide FIR No.10/2024, U/S 420, 467, 468, 471 IPC Dated. 10. O1. 2024 PS Shopian against the accused Mohd Iqbal Bhat son of Abdul Jabbar Bhat resident of Pashpora Keegam Shopian and investigation has been set into motion”, reads the statement.

“One more vehicle with fake registration plate has been identified by Traffic Police in Budgam & similar action by invoking legal provisions under M V/ Criminal Act have been initiated”, the statement reads.

“Most of the vehicles with fake registration number plates are detected once e-Challans of such vehicles are executed by traffic police. In such cases the phone number of original legal owner of the vehicle being linked with registration number, legal owner receives an online challan message which is both perplexing and confusing as the real owner & original vehicle are never part of such challaning process.”

The legal owners, the statement underscores, most of the times show laxity by not reporting such incidents.

“SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir shri RP Singh JKPS has requested that such doubtful online challan messages be promptly reported to rural traffic headquarters for identification of vehicles with fake registration plates so that legal action can be initiated at the earliest”, reads the statement further.
