In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the National Center of Seismology reported that strong tremors were experienced in Delhi and the National Capital Region late this evening.

The seismic activity, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, originated in the southern part of China’s Xinjiang at a depth of 80 kilometers. Fortunately, there are no reported injuries or destruction.

Notably, mild tremors were last felt in Delhi and the NCR on January 11 following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The epicenter was 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul, and tremors extended to Pakistan.

Today, a significant earthquake struck a remote part of southwestern China, resulting in 47 people being buried. Over 200 individuals were urgently evacuated from the affected area.

The landslide occurred at 5:51 am in Zhenxiong County,

Yunnan province. China has been grappling with various natural disasters in recent months, some triggered by extreme weather conditions such as heavy downpours.
