Baramulla, Mar 27 :- The 5th edition of Ramzan Cosco tournament commenced in Govt Degree college Baramulla on Wednesday. The tournament is organized by the Physical education department of the college in which 18 teams f4om different departments of the college including faculty is going to take part.

 

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Rather Principal GDC Baramulla who was also the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony. Speaking on the occasion Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Rather appreciated the effort of the organizer and urged both staff and the students to take a keen interest in sports activities. He welcomed the step of the Department of Physical Education in creating the sports environment within the college.

He further stated that the GDC Baramulla is committed to developing sports at all levels and would like to see the college grounds buzzing with sports activities throughout the year. He also expressed his gratitude to all the participating teams and was happy to see the Teachers and Students taking part in the event.

The inaugural Match of the tournament was played between the Department of Computer Application and the Department of Public Administration. The tournament witnessed tremendous response from both students and the staff. The toss was won by BCA & decided to bat first, while batting first BCA scored 87 runs in the allotted overs which was chased by the Public Administration department in just 7 overs without losing a wicket.

 

“We were eagerly waiting for the tournament, the tournament is organized every year by college authorities, apart from other activities in college organized such kind of events will help students to be mentally and physically fit in campus’ ‘, Talib a student of public Administration department said.

 

The inaugural match also witnessed hundreds of student spectators turn into the support of their favorite department teams in college grounds.

“The sole aim of the competition is to positively engage the youth in sports and to promote sports especially cricket culture in the college campus,” Dr Tahir HOD Physical Education department said.

 

He further added that the players have shown zeal, enthusiasm and sportsman spirit throughout the competition which indeed show their passion for sports and cricket skills of youth .

 

He also thanked college Administration for providing full support to them in organizing the tournament
